Turtle Island Massage Therapy

WELCOME TO TURTLE ISLAND MASSAGE THERAPY

Turtle Island Massage Therapy has been a proud member of the South Osborne community for over 15 years. We at Turtle Island try to bring the close family feel of the community, into our clinic and Massage practice.
Turtle Island has always been a small clinic with dedicated and passionate Massage Therapists. Whether you are seeking treatment for a specific condition, stress, or just want to unwind with a relaxation massage our Therapists are always happy to help.
Our therapists are graduates of a 2200 hour massage therapy program and are licensed to practice by the city of Winnipeg. All therapists are members of a respected Massage Therapy Association which provides them with insurance coverage and continuing education in their field.
All massage treatments are based off of Swedish massage, but can be adapted into a Therapeutic/deep tissue massage or a calming Relaxation massage. We also have therapists that offer Cupping and Reflexology.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy has a wide range of benefits for people of all ages from infants to the elderly, office workers to athletes and so on. These benefits are known to include things like the reduction and management of pain, anxiety, depression, stress and tension. Massage Therapy can also be beneficial for increasing range of motion and mobility after an injury, or reducing restrictions caused by adhesions or trigger points. Regular treatments by a Registered Massage Therapist can help with the maintenance and healing of a current condition, or with the prevention of future soft tissue related complications.

What to expect on your first treatment

We ask that you arrive approximately 10 minutes prior to your scheduled treatment, to allow enough time for you to fill out our health history form and any other required documents.
These completed forms will help your therapist provide a safe treatment plan that addresses your concerns and goals.
Once your paperwork is complete, your therapist will bring you into a treatment room, where they will discuss your information, ask questions to clarify any symptoms you may have, or medications that you are taking. Your therapist will perform a brief assessment which may include range of motion, or specific muscle or joint tests to try and identify the root of any pain or discomfort you may be feeling. When you and your therapist have agreed upon the goals and process of your massage, they will leave the room, allowing you to undress to the agreed layer of clothing, and to get onto the massage table in the agreed position. (ie. Lay face down, between the sheets, with your face in the face cradle. etc). Your therapist will always knock before re-entering the treatment room to begin your massage.
When your treatment time is finished, your therapist will again leave the room so that you may get dressed. Depending on your concerns, treatment goals, and what the therapist feels during your treatment, they may recommend a few simple stretches or exercises that may be beneficial for you to try until your next treatment.

I am an upstanding member of the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba, and have taken many post-education courses. A few of the courses that I have taken, and continue to utilize in my practice are: “Upper Body Advanced Trigger Point Therapy”, “Oncology and Massage”, and “Soft Tissue Release”. Before recently taking some time off to start a family, I also taught in the Massage Therapy program at Robertson College. I have worked at Turtle Island Massage Therapy since 2005, and have been Co-Owner since 2012.

Massage Therapy Diploma program at The Professional Institute of Massage Therapy in 2005.

I am an upstanding member of the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba, and have taken many courses over the years that I try to incorporate into my life and also into my practice as a Massage Therapist. Some of the highlights include the “John F. Barnes Myofascial Release”, “Active Stretching” and a “Soft Tissue Release”. In 2017, I completed the “Mastery of TMJ” course, which renewed my passion and interest in TMJ dysfunctions. In late 2013, I started at Robertson College, as the Massage Clinic Coordinator for their student clinic. I love being a part of my clients’ health care routine, and am always proud when a client is able to achieve a pain free lifestyle because of treatments that I have done. I joined the Turtle Island team in 2010, and became Co-Owner in 2012. I love my Turtle Island Team, and am so happy to have them as part of my family.

Upon graduating, I continued to devote part of my time working at Robertson College by mentoring students in various roles at the college. Starting as a tutor, and then becoming an Outreach Supervisor, I am able to help give back to the community with events at Siloam Mission and Nine Circles. Recently, I have become eligible to be in the classroom, and have taken on the role of Instructor for Orthopedic Assessment. I am a well standing member of the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba, and am certified in Cupping Massage. I am trained in Emergency First Aid/CPR, and have also taken a “Discussions on Concussions” course. I am passionate about assisting others in maintaining their health and well-being. I have an extensive background in healthcare, with over 10 years of experience helping people in stressful situations. I use this background to help provide our diverse community with a uniquely individual Massage Therapy treatment. I have been part of the Turtle Island Team since 2017.
